Jerry Siegel & Arnold Drake Win Bill Finger Awards

The first annual Bill Finger Awards for Excellence in Comic Book Writing have been awarded to Jerry Siegel and Arnold Drake. Siegel co-created Superman with Joe Shuster, while Arnold Drake was responsible for creating Deadman and the Doom Patrol.

Scott Cohn on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comics

Artist Scott Cohn has been interviewed by Comicon.com’s PULSE News about his work with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics from Mirage Studios. Cohn worked on the second season of the new cartoon and has done art for several other Turtles comics over time.

Hasbro Grants Transformers Comic Book License to IDW

The Hasbro Property Group has announced that IDW Publishing has been awarded the license to produce Transformers comics, based on the shapechanging robot toy line. An introductory #0 issue will be available in October 2005, with the regular series launch following in January 2006.

Bart Simpson's Voice Elected Mayor of L.A. Suburb

Nancy Cartwright, the voice actress who plays Bart Simpson, has been elected mayor of Northridge, CA. News reports suggest that neither job will suffer due to the other. (via Comicon.com’s The Beat weblog)

G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes Gets Origin in August

Japanese Machinery Maker Builds Gundams to Order

The Japan Times reports that environment machinery maker Masaaki Nagumo has built a functioning Gundam-style robot. Dubbed the Land Walker, the robot stands 3.4 meters (approx. 11 feet) high and weighs 1 ton. The robot can seat one passenger/driver and fire sponge bullets (honest) from air guns in the cockpit. NYC Museum of Modern Art Ghibli Film Festival

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City will be screening several Studio Ghibli films for a “Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata: Masters of Animation” feature. Howl’s Moving Castle will be shown on June 6, several days before its scheduled American release date. (via Nausicaa.net)

Go! Media Entertainment has announced Go! Comi, the company’s manga imprint scheduled for launch in October. Go! Comi‘s launch titles will include Cantarella by You Higuri, Her Majesty’s Dog by Mick Takeuchi, Crossroad by Mizuki Shioko, and Tenshi Ja Nai! (I’m No Angel!) by Takako Shigematsu.
