Jerry Beck Previews Nicktoons on Jan 10

Animation historian Jerry Beck will be hosting a preview screening of six new short films at the Nicktoons Studios in Burbank, CA, on January 10, 2007. The screenings will be from Random Cartoons, a new series for Nickelodeon from Studio Frederator, and will include Beck’s own “Hornswiggle.” The event is open to members of ASIFA-Hollywood.

Animator Helen Hill Shot and Killed in New Orleans

South Carolina’s The State newspaper is reporting that filmmaker/animator Helen Hill was shot and killed in New Orleans, Louisiana, early in the morning of January 4, 2007. She was 36 years old. The Cartoon Brew weblog is relaying the information that Prescott Wright passed away on December 28, 2006, at the age of 71. Wright was a co-founder of the Ottowa International Animation Festival and of ASIFA-San Francisco.
