AP Asks Why "Ratatouille" Isn’t a "Best Picture" Nominee

by on February 1, 2008

Jake Coyle of the Associated Press poses the question whether Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille was squeezed out of the running for this year’s “Best Picture” Academy Award simply because it was an animated film. Coyle notes that the movie’s broad category of nominations “suggests the kind of broad consensus that often results in bigger awards like best director or best picture.” He also cites comments by The Los Angeles Times‘ Tom O’Neil and The New York Times‘ A.O. Scott naming the movie as one of the best of the year, animated or not.
