Anime Limited have announced they have obtained the rights to Miss Hokusai in the UK and Ireland.
Produced by the always popular Production I.G., directed by Keiichi Hara and inspired by Hinako Sugiura’s comic Sarusuberi the film focusses on O-Ei, the little known daughter of the famous and influential Japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai in 1814 Edo. Many of the creator’s works inspired later artistic masters such as Vincent van Gogh but the film calls attention to the daughter who often anonymously completed commissions on his behalf.
Other talent involved with the production include chief animation by Yoshimi Itazu (The Wind Rises), background art by Hiroshi Ono (Wolf Children) and music by Harumi Fuuki (Dawn of a Filmmaker: The Keisuke Kinoshita Story)
The film will be released in Japan 9th May, with a release in the UK due in October/November and to be followed by releases on DVD and Blu-ray.
On handling the release, company president Andrew Partridge comments “I’m thrilled to be able to bring this beautiful film to the UK. It’s a wonderful story with an interesting historical setting that is both enjoyable and fascinating. I’m really looking forward to giving this film a great release”.
