Animated Penguin Causes Controversy in South Florida

by on May 23, 2007

A cartoon on PBS Sprout is the center of a controversy with a South Florida mother, who claims that the cartoon’s title is a euphemism for male genitalia by some Hispanics. The cartoon, Pingu, centers on a young penguin and his adventures in his frozen environment and has existed for nearly 20 years. The mother claims that she has complained to both PBS and Comcast, her local cable provider, and was told by both to turn off the show if the title offended her.
