The Hollywood Reporter states that The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun and web series The Guild star Felicia Day will be co-starring in an animated adaptation of John Layman and Rob Guillory’s comic Chew, published by Image Comics. The adaptation will be directed by Jeff Krelitz (who also directed the animated Torchwood: Web of Lies) from a script by Layman. The series centers on Detective Tony Chu (who will be voiced by Yeun), a “cibopath” who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats, and who works for the Food and Drug Administration enforcing a world-wide ban on poultry after a deadly bird flu epidemic. Day will play Chu’s love interest Amelia Mintz, a “saboscrivner” who can write about food so descriptively that readers can taste what she describes. The article states that the animated adaptation is being aimed at digital broadcast and home entertainment release.
Chew had been optioned for a live-action TV series in 2010, but the project was declared dead by Layman in 2013 via his Facebook feed.
