by on July 3, 2012

Veteran actor Andy Griffith passed away today at his North Carolina home at the age of 86. Griffith best known roles were Sheriff Andy Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show and folksy defense lawyer Ben Matlock in Matlock. The Andy Griffith Show ran from 1960 to 1971 (although Griffith left the show in 1968), earning five Emmy Awards for actor Don Knotts and three more nominations. The series launched a number of spinoff shows, and many of the show’s regulars would reappear in guest spots on Matlock during that shows run from 1986 to 1995.

Griffith had few animated voice acting roles in his resume, but was notably the narrator in 1976’s Frosty’s Winter Wonderland TV special, a sequel to 1969’s Frosty the Snowman. He was also one of a number of celebrities cast in 2007’s Christmas is Here Again and Melchior in the 2006 direct-to-video movie The Very First Noel.
