by on June 18, 2009

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will be expanding its “Summer of Anime” celebration with two screenings to pay tribute to Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki. Spirited Away will be screened on Friday, July 17, 2009, at 7:30 PM, and A Tribute to Animation Master Hayao Miyazaki will be screened on Tuesday, July 28, at 7:30 PM. Both screenings will be held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater, which will extend its gallery hours for the “ANIME! High Art — Pop Culture” exhibition on those days. The latter event will be hosted by John Lasseter, and will include excerpts from Miyazaki’s films and a conversation with Miyazaki himself. The main exhibition will be on display until August 23, 2009. For more information, visit oscars.org.
