AMC TV Posts Sample of Bob Clampett "John Carter of Mars" Cartoon
The AMC cable TV network has posted an article and video clip of early animation work by Bob Clampett from an animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s novel John Carter of Mars. The footage from the 1930’s was the result of Clampett approaching Burroughs for a serious science fiction adaptation of the novel, but the project was scuttled because the studios wanted to make a science fiction slapstick comedy.
While still unconfirmed by the studio, Pixar Animation Studios is reported to be seeking the rights to do an animated adaptation of the novel, and Jim Hill Media reported that Disney acquired several John Carter of Mars-related Internet domain names about a month ago.
