Elmore is a very strange place to live, and that’s before you take into consideration how inanimate objects tend to take on a life of their own. Come on in and see for yourself!
Back when The Amazing World of Gumball was first announced, production material mentioned how everything in Elmore had the potential to come alive. That seemed to have been dropped from the show, with inanimate objects only coming to life for quick jokes such as when the TV threw itself out of the window in “The Party”, but this episode gave us a glimpse into what the show might have been like. Like “The Tape”, it was a fairly experimental episode. It didn’t have any specific plot and instead consisted of a number of disjointed scenes depicting what life is like for everyday items in Elmore. It’s a bold move, and one that I know will not work well for everybody. People watch the show to see Gumball and his friends, after all, and having an episode where they are largely absent is bound to upset some people. But I loved it. I think it’s brilliant for the show to do things like this and I sincerely hope that there are more of these types of episodes in season three. Elmore has always been a very strange place, but this episode shows that what we’ve seen is just the tip of the iceberg. I really want to see more of how the world works in Gumball.
