While giving a tour to a new student, Darwin and Gumball find themselves being dragged into an unwanted rivalry with students from another school.
“The Sweaters” was a very fun episode, but I can’t help but feel that I would have enjoyed it more if I had a better understanding of what it was parodying. It seemed to be poking fun at clichés and trends from the 80s, but I’m not very well versed in such things and so much of this episode just went over my head. I mean, why were all of the humans wearing so many sweaters? Fortunately, the episode was written in such a manner that you could still find the jokes funny even if you weren’t entirely aware of why the jokes were being made. The use of humans, while somewhat controversial, worked in this instance. Their cheap animation and character designs allowed them to both fit in to Gumball’s world while simultaneously standing out from it, and I give the show’s crew credit for making it work. I wish I had more to say about this episode, as I did enjoy it, but its strangeness is hard to describe. All I can really do is recommend that you watch it for yourself, as it is certainly worth seeing.
