Adam Reed on How Spanish Women Led to FX’s “Archer”

by on May 14, 2014

The Hollywood Reporter has spoken with several creators of the FX Network’s top shows to commemorate the network’s 20th anniversary. Archer creator Adam Reed discusses how a trip to Spain while he was in-between shows led to the creation of Archer. Reed planned to walk the 1,000-kilometer Via de la Plata, which runs south-to-north from Seville to Santiago de Compostela, but took a break about halfway through in the city of Salamanca, “where the main industry, turns out, is breathtakingly, heartbreakingly beautiful women.” Reed states that “for three days, I couldn’t even splutter ‘Buenos dias‘ to any of them — not once,” and that this experience led to the creation of Sterling Archer (who, Reed states, “would’ve absolutely sauntered over to a table full of those women and sat down and ordered an entire case of cava or whatever”).
