70-Year Old Ex-Marine Outed as Voice of Bambi

by on March 9, 2005

Numerous news outlets (including the Houston Chronicle and the Duluth News Tribune) are noting the fact that the model and voice of Disney’s Bambi was provided by Donald Roan Dunagan, who went on to a 25-year career in the United States Marine Corps that included three tours in Vietnam. Dunagan states that kept his acting career mum because, “I would not have made it as a very young first sergeant, a CWO gunner, a regular line lieutenant, company commander or field-grade officer with the nickname ‘Bambi.'”

Dunagan was recently outed at a charity dinner attended by local media, and appears in a documentary on the recently released Bambi DVD.
