The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams has died today from an apparent suicide. He was 63.
A successful stand-up comedian, Williams achieved nationwide fame as Mork, an alien from the planet Ork on an episode of Happy Days. Williams later played Mork in the Happy Days spinoff Mork & Mindy from 1978-1982, and voiced Mork in the animated version. In 2013, he returned to TV with The Crazy Ones for CBS. The show lasted only one season.
Williams’s film career includes movies like Popeye, The World According to Garp, Hook, The Birdcage, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, and 2 Night at the Museum films. He was nominated for 4 Academy Awards for films like Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poet’s Society, and The Fisher King. He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting.
Williams also helped form Comic Relief along with Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal to help benefit the homeless.
William’s voice roles include Batty Koda in FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Ramon and Lovelace in Happy Feet 1 & 2, Fender in Robots, and the Genie in the 1992 Disney film Aladdin, and the DTV film Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
