Pokémon Meets Tekken, and They Beat Each Other Up, in Pokkén Tournament

If this came out on April 1 you’d think it was a joke, but it ain’t April Fools Day. Hold on to your butts, because this is real and this is happening.

A collaboration between Bandai Namco and The Pokémon Company has resulted in Pokkén Tournament, a fusion of Pokémon characters and Tekken gameplay that will be freaking out Japanese arcade-goers soon.

The video features a vicious fight between Lucario and Machamp. Being roughly humanoid in size and shape and having arms and legs (Machamp is more than covered there), those two are a good fit for Tekken style gameplay, but how are other Pokémon like Caterpie going to be represented? Best guess is that they won’t since there’s a deep enough roster to pull all humanoid Pokémon, but the game may surprise us.

So far the game is only announced for arcades in Japan and may never make it to the U.S.
