It’s Official – Studio Ghibli Feature Films On Hiatus
As expected, Studio Ghibli made the announcement that they will be putting their feature film producing on temporary hiatus while concentrating on “restructuring and rebuilding” the famed animation studio. The high cost of the animation production process combined with the Studio Ghibli’s tradition of relying on its own workforce rather than sub-contracting studio work has meant the studio must make higher profit margins on their released feature films to feasibly survive on a feature film-per-year schedule. For the time being, Studio Ghibli will remain open to focus on maintaining their existing feature film and other studio assets.
Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985 and its film “Spirited Away” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003.
