Thomas the Tank Engine Voice Actor Quits, Saying Wages Aren't Really Useful
Martin T. Sherman, the voice actor for Thomas, Percy, and Diesel in the U.S. version of Thomas the Tank Engine, has quit the role, stating in an open letter on a fan site that, “It is embarrassing but the reason is that they are paying a very low wage. The terms they are offering are so poor, and this with the immense success of Thomas, that the only right thing for me to do is walk away.” The letter has since been removed from the site, with Sherman telling The Guardian that the letter was removed because of a demand from HIT Entertainment, owners of Thomas the Tank Engine, threatening legal action if the letter was not removed from the site immediately. HIT told the Guardian, “After a lengthy negotiation period, unfortunately, we could not reach an agreement with Martin T Sherman and have decided to part ways.”
No word has been issued on who will replace Sherman on the show, or how this might affect the imports of the cartoon to the United States.
