Nickelodeon Pulls "Legend of Korra" TV Premieres; Moves to Digital Distribution
In a surprise move, Nickelodeon has pulled five upcoming premiere episodes of The Legend of Korra‘s third season, with the last TV episode (“The Terror Within,” episode 8 of this season’s 14) premiering on Friday, July 25, 2014, at 8:00 PM (ET/PT). A subsequent announcement by series co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino (through their Tumblr and Facebook accounts, respectively) stated that the series will be moving to digital platforms. More information is to be forthcoming at the Legend of Korra panel at San Diego Comic-Con International 2014.
The Legend of Korra is currently available on several digital platforms, including Amazon Prime and services from Google, Sony, and Microsoft, but is absent from the Apple iTunes Store. Even seasons 1 and 2 of the show had been removed from iTunes recently, and some users reported that their previously purchased episodes could not be downloaded or streamed.
The Legend of Korra has also been suffering from declining ratings, going from its series premiere high of 4.5 million viewers to 1.5 million viewers for the season 3 premiere to approximately 1.2 million for episode 7.
