Colin Firth Drops Out as Voice of "Paddington"

The Hollywood Reporter states that actor Colin Firth has dropped out of the CGI/live-action hybrid film Paddington. No reason was given for his departure, with Firth saying in a statement, “It’s been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realization that he simply doesn’t have my voice.” The film, based on the beloved children’s books by Michael Bond, is still slated for a Christmas Day release in the United States, while a search is on for a replacement. Trailers for the movie have not featured the character speaking, and The Hollywood Reporter cites other films where a voice actor was replaced relatively late during production (including Scarlett Johansson replacing Samantha Morton as the title character in Spike Jonze’s Her, Benjamin Bratt replacing Al Pacino in Despicable Me 2, and Ty Burrell replacing Robert Downey Jr. in Mr. Peabody and Sherman).
