E! Online reports that radio announcer Marshall Aaron Mayer aka “Stagger” Lee Marshall died on April 26th, 2014 of esophageal cancer. He was 64.
Marshall started as a radio announcer at KRIZ in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 14, when he lied about his age with his deep voice. He later did radio in stations throughout Los Angeles. He also became a wrestling announcer starting in 1986 as the announcer for the Los Angeles portion of WrestleMania 2 for the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). He also was an announcer for The American Wrestling Association (AWA) and World Championship Wrestling.
Marshall took over the voice of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes cereal mascot Tony the Tiger in 2005 after the death of original Tony The Tiger voice Thurl Ravenscroft.
Marshall is survived by his wife, son, stepdaughter and granddaughter.
- Oh, man. First Thurl Ravenscroft, now Lee Marshall? Looks like Kellogg's is going to find another voice actor, and I don't know if Seth MacFarlane's going to be filling the role, what with his hands full.
