"Star Wars: A New Dawn" Novel to Tie Into "Star Wars Rebels"
A novel tying into the upcoming action-adventure series Star Wars Rebels has been revealed in an announcement on StarWars.com. The book, titled Star Wars: A New Dawn, will tell the story of how lead characters Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla first meet and come to work together against the Galactic Empire. Kanan has been described as a “Cowboy Jedi” forced to go underground and conceal his identity after the destruction of the Jedi order, while Hera is a “strong-minded” pilot and the “heart of the group” as well as the owner of the Ghost, the spaceship the core Star Wars Rebels cast uses to traverse the galaxy.
A New Dawn was announced as the first novel to be a part of a new effort between Disney Publishing Worldwide and Del Rey Books to publish an ongoing assortment of Star Wars novels to complement the Star Wars storyline being crafted under Disney’s stewardship since its acquisition of LucasFilm in 2012. Consequently, author John Jackson Miller (Star Wars: Knight Errant, Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith, Kenobi) wrote the book in consultation with Star Wars Rebels executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman.
Star Wars: A New Dawn will be released on September 2, 2014, while the animated series is scheduled to debut this fall with a one hour special on the Disney Channel prior to its regular broadcast on Disney XD. The series takes place 14 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, at a time when the Galactic Empire is securing its hold on the galaxy and the resistance against it begins to take shape.
