Russia's Soyuzmultfilm Animation Studio to Target Chinese and Indian Markets

The Hollywood Reporter notes efforts by Russia’s Soyuzmultfilm animation studio to dub its library of cartoons into foreign languages for sale abroad, specifically targeting the Chinese and Indian markets as the most promising prospects. The studio was founded in 1936 and was the Soviet Union’s main cartoon studio until the fall of the Soviet empire, exporting many of their animated productions in Eastern Europe. The studio’s TV series Smeshariki has already been exported internationally as Kikoriki (airing on the CW network in the United States and Treehouse TV in Canada), and their 1957 adaptation of The Snow Queen remains very highly regarded (if still unrestored or remastered) among animation aficionados.
