Synopsis: The artists formerly known as ISIS seem to be on their way to becoming a full-fledged ISIS unit again while – more importantly – Lana finally has her baby and we find out the gender the name and the identity of the father.
Details: The artists formerly known as ISIS are split up with Archer, Lana and Cherlene in the custody of the CIA agents Hawley and Slater at the airport of the Central American country of San Marcos and Cyril, Ray, Pam, Malory and Krieger fleeing the presidential palace now that the rebels have overthrown the government [and therefore Cyril’s brief and thoroughly uninteresting reign as Senor Presidente].
Lana is being interrogated by the CIA agents but she is also pregnant which means that the interrogation is not going well for her – or for the CIA agents – especially after she begins having contractions. It is then revealed that Archer may or may not have known about the CIA’s role in San Marcos the entire time [Lana believes Archer knew about it but Malory claims she lied to him, as usual].
Meanwhile, back at the presidential palace, Ray and Krieger are trying to disarm the nerve gas missile and cannot seem to deactivate the launch sequence when Krieger finally realizes all they have to do is detach the nerve gas canister from the missile to avert the impending disaster – but then, of course, they have to find a way to dispose of the nerve gas when they are picked up by the presidential palace-fleeing Cyril, Malory and Pam.
Back at the airport, Lana is still experiencing contractions – which are getting closer – and being annoyed by Archer calling her “buddy” in his attempt to calm her down and do her breathing exercises. When Cyril, Malory and Pam finally arrive at the airport, Malory kicks out Archer and takes over baby-delivering supervision which essentially means she puts Pam in charge of the actual delivering and hands Lana a bottle of cognac. Pam delivers the baby and Lana promptly quits [though we expect this to be retracted next season].
The end of Season Five has Malory negotiating a lucrative deal with the CIA which will entail ISIS reforming in Season Six while Lana admits to Archer that the baby girl his is via his frozen sperm donation at the sperm bank and that she loves him though Archer misses out on much of her admission/explanation due to his tinnitus.
The Poop and Skinny: Top four things to remember from this episode…
Lana’s baby’s name sounded like Abigene [like Abilene, only with a “g” where the “l” should be] but TZ unofficially grants latitude to one and all on however they want to spell it since everybody seems to just be happy that it’s Archer’s kid Archer too.
The CIA had to invade San Marcos to keep their budget.
Krieger maintains that he never put a brain chip in Carol/Cheryl/Cherlene’s brain but rather merely affixed a sticker from a LEGO on her head.
Two slap fights in this episode – the first with Ray administering it to Krieger and the second Malory giving it to Pam.
Season Six of what is expected to revert to “Archer” does not yet have a debut date so you will just have to plant yourself in the corner of the room and sway back and forth for now until FX announces the “due date”.
The coveted TZ Best Line of the Episode Award goes to Pam, as she admonishes Malory – “God hates you!”
