Guardians Of The Galaxy Set To Save Universe This Summer

A band of unlikely superheroes includes a talking raccoon, a character that looks like tree and with a name sounding like a noise your body makes late at night and both being led by a character whose name sounds like it came from either a 1970s disco movie or a David Bowie concert [take your pick]. The characters and premise for the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” doesn’t get much more original or unorthodox than that.

The film is based on the Marvel comics series of the same name, about an eclectic collection of characters, mostly cosmic criminal types who reside on the other side of the universe from Earth, who must band together to fight the forces of evil. Specifically, space pilot Peter Quill, also known as Star-lord, has absconded with an orb which, unknown to him, is of extreme importance and interest – like, total universe domination importance and interest – to the villainous Ronan. Quill/Star-lord cannot escape Ronan on his own and must enlist the aid of a quirky group of misfit superhero/part-time criminals as he eventually discovers the true importance of the orb and they all come to understand why they must keep it away from Ronan if the universe is to be saved.

The star-studded cast boasts Peter Quill/Star-lord as played by Chris Pratt [of “Captain America” fame], Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, Bradley Cooper portrays Rocket Raccoon, Zoe Saldana is Gamora, Vin Diesel is Groot and Lee Pace is Ronan. Additional characters include Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as Taneleer Tivan.

After originally being scheduled for a May 2014 release, “Guardians of the Galaxy” was moved back a few months and is now currently scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014.
