Arrow – Birds of Prey – Season 2, Episode 17
Synopsis: Arrow and Sara assist Police Dad Lance capture and bring in notorious Starling City crime lord Frank Bertinelli – aka the father of Helena the Huntress – and this brings Helena the Huntress out of the Italian woodwork and back to Starling City to kill her father.
Details: After Arrow and Sara assist Police Dad Lance in capturing noted Starling City crime kingpin Frank Bertinelli, Laurel is hired back by assistant district city attorney Adam Donner to prosecute Bertinelli should he ever come to trial. This is in question because Bertinelli’s daughter – aka Helena the Huntress – would like to see him deader than a doornail for orchestrating the killing of her then-boyfriend and has returned to Starling City for just that reason.
Arrow allows Roy out of his cage and onto a mission to try and capture Helena the Huntress but he gets carried away again and Oliver asks him to break up with Thea because he tends to get too rageful.
In flashback mode, Slade asks Sara to send over the boat engine mechanic to fix the boat engine but boat engine mechanic doesn’t want to go so Sara konks him.
Helena unsuccessfully tries to kidnap her father but takes hostages – including Laurel – whom Sara promptly saves but stubborn Laurel will not leave the other hostages behind, creating Cage Match Number One between Sara – aka Black Canary – and Helena the Huntress, which Helena wins.
Returning to flashback mode, Slade threatens to kill Oliver unless Sara hands over the boat engine mechanic and also gives Oliver a tattoo to remember him by.
Thea catches Roy intentionally kissing a red dressed chick as part of Roy’s plan to initiate the Oliver-sourced breakup with his sister. Helena escapes the cops and takes her prize hostage – Laurel – with her, prompting Cage Match Number Two between Sara and Helena with Sara winning until Laurel intervenes and cops shoot Frank Bertinelli.
The scenario roundup – yeehaw! – has Laurel keeping her job via blackmail, Thea blubbering something about Roy and family secrets, Sara kissing Oliver, Roy getting mad [again] and Thea getting picked up by Slade Wilson.
The Poop and Skinny: The Arrow Lair – for some reason – temporarily moves into the much louder Club Verdant for a scene.
Felicity rightfully denigrates the Greek collegial life and Oliver admits he was a frat rat [of course he was].
Laurel cannot practice law as a disbarred attorney so figure there will be some legal loophole or lame explanation to explain why she stays at her job – credibility issue #740.
As expected, Slade returns – but not after taking Thea, Roy and Saras hostage to draw Oliver/Arrow out for a showdown takes in the “Deathstroke” episode on April 2.
Burning question for the next episode of “Arrow” – Why is it that Oliver/Arrow is so attuned to his surroundings in certain situations but not others – such as when Thea is getting snatched by Slade after he lets her go off alone and distraught into the night without escort?
As always – it is important to remember that, at any juncture where the situation appears to be dire for Arrow/Oliver and his very life may be in danger – there would be no more show [and therefore no more money to be made] if he were to die. You continue to be welcome.
