In advance of Toy Fair 2014, USA Today has taken a look at upcoming toys set to be displayed for the press and toy buyers. The newspaper spoke with Bruce Timm and Paul Dini in conjunction with a new line of 6-inch action figures based on Batman the Animated Series coming from DC Collectibles in November. The first wave of figures will include Batman, Catwoman, Two-Face, and Mr. Freeze, with Catwoman using her original Batman the Animated Series design and the rest using their updated New Adventures of Batman re-designs. In addition to discussing the designs of the figures, the article notes the cross-over success of Harley Quinn and a surprising revelation from current Batman comics writer Scott Snyder on the influence of the cartoon.
For a more recent animated property, Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Rebels will be getting the usual merchandising treatment, with 3.75-inch action figures and two different Lego sets of the Ghost and Phantom spaceships; the two Lego sets also reveal more details about cast members other than the previously announced Chopper and Kanan. The Lego sets are set for release in August, with the action figures to follow in the autumn.
