The 1967 Disney animation classic The Jungle Book was digitally restored and enjoys its Diamond Edition release on Blu-ray and DVD today. The famous Rudyard Kipling yarn about Indian boy Mowgli growing up with the jungle animals was the final animated film worked on by Walt Disney [who passed away before its release], featured the animation of Disney’s famous “Nine Old Men” (animating department veterans who were responsible for all of Disney’s early animated classics), and showcases a memorable Louis Prima soundtrack. The Blu-ray and DVD extras include a 10-minute conversation with songwriter Richard Sherman, Walt’s recently passed [November 2013] daughter Diane Disney Miller talks about the film with animator Floyd Norman and alternate storyboard endings are shown by Disney artist Raymond Percy. The UK version gets the bonus of a “Nine Old Men” featurette. Previews of some of the new bonus features are embedded below:
The Jungle Book Diamond Edition is set for Blu-ray and DVD release on February 11, 2014.
