Archer Vice – Southbound And Down – Season 5, Episode 5

Krieger programs Ray while the Cherlene Tour is away.

Synopsis: The Cherlene Tour bus goes to Texas along with a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am and Pam’s snowballs.

Details: The episode opens with Krieger re-programming Ray’s legs so he can walk – but only if he is nice to Krieger. Malory offers to get Cherlene [Cheryl/Carol] on the country western music show “Travis County Limits” in Austin, Texas, to get her country western music career off to a flying start, but since Cherlene doesn’t fly, they must take the big-ass tour bus with a gigantic scantily-clad Cherlene airbrushed on the side. Archer suggests they use this opportunity to make a “Smokey and the Bandit”-like run while accompanying the Cherlene tour bus.

While Krieger, Ray and Woodhouse stay home at historic Tunt Manor, Pam accompanies Archer in the classic “Smokey and the Bandit” 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am and the rest of the crew – Malory, Cyril, Lana and Cherlene – occupy the tour bus. Cyril takes first crack at driving but Lana eventually takes over.

Lana takes over Cherlene Tour bus driving duties from Cyril.

Because Pam is still hooked on cocaine, she brings along a goodly amount and then uses it as an incentive for some bikers in one of the many stops along the way. The bikers eventually track down the Trans-Am and the tour bus and try to force both off the road. The Texas state police show up and also try to force both off the road before archer figures out all both of them really want is the cocaine Pam has brought along, so they toss the cocaine out the window to elude the bikers and Texas police but in doing so spin ou the Trans-Am which is then tagged by the tour bus.

They eventually arrive at the Travis County Limits studio for the television show and Cherlene sings a song that impresses Tony Phony, the music agent and sets the stage for Cherlene’s “outlaw country” tour to continue.

The Poop and Skinny: Top four things to remember from this episode…

What appears to be a 1967 Chrysler New Yorker or Imperial cruises past historic Tunt Manor in the opening scene.

Snowballs are breasts.

Breasts are sub-cutaneous adipose tissue.

Travis County Limits is a play on “Austin City Limits” – a real country western music television show of yore.

The coveted TZ Best Line of the Episode Award goes to Archer, who chastises Texas for obvious reasons – “Pam, come on, it’s Texas! There’s got to be someone, somewhere, that wants enough cocaine to forget they live there!”
