Bob’s Burgers – Presto Tina-O – Season 4, Episode 10
Synopsis: It’s a magical episode as Tina yearns to be noticed by Jimmy Pesto Jr. and volunteers to become his magician’s assistant for a magician’s contest while Bob yearns to escape the magician’s “curse” placed upon him by a cheapskate magician visiting the restaurant.
Details: Tina has a crush on Jimmy Pesto, Jr. and, as is the case with most crushes, this creates several problems with the decision-making processes of the brain. In this particular case, Jimmy Jr. has decided to participate in a magician’s contest except that he is also infected by the dance bug and dancing and prestidigitation tend not to go together. This is where Tina comes in. Noting the obvious disparity between Jimmy Jr.’s dancing and magic in his show, she offers to be his magician’s assistant – which also happens to be a perfect opportunity to get even closer to the boy she swoons over constantly.
Meanwhile, a real magician named Mars Sazerac [Andres du Bouchet] enters the restaurant and, at first, Bob and Linda are taken in by his magic tricks – though Linda more than Bob. Sazerac is responsible for giving Tina the idea to be Jimmy Jr.’s magician’s assistant but is also a cheapskate and refuses to order Bob’s burgers despite being offered the “magician’s discount”.
Tina approaches Jimmy Jr. to be his assistant and he accepts but Tina soon finds out that he is more interested in dancing around the stager than actually performing magic tricks and so she takes it upon herself to go to the local magic emporium for a book on magic. But Jimmy Jr. does not take this challenge to his magician authority well and fires her, replacing her with Tina’s nemesis – Tammy.
Mars Sazerac has brought all his magician friends into Bob’s restaurant but has only ordered a plate of fries to share amongst them and no burgers. This angers Bob, so he withdraws the “magician’s discount” and his name is immediately placed in Sazerac’s “book” with a curse.
Having been replaced by Tammy as Jimmy Jr.’s magician’s assistant, Tina threatens to enter the magician’s contest herself but Jimmy Jr. eventually comes around and allows Tina to be his magician’s assistant again while Bob initially sabotages Sazerac’s book only to discover that Sazerac was playing him all along.
The Poop and Skinny: Mars Sazerac is voiced by Andres du Bouchet, whose main claim to fame is as a longtime writer for the Conan O’Brien talk show.
Sazerac is both the oldest American cocktail [whiskey, absinthe, sugar, bitters] and a brand of rye whiskey.
Along with Bob, Larry Bird and Diane Keaton are also listed in Sazerac’s Book of Enemies.
Tina’s middle name is “Danger” but it’s spelled R-u-t-h – which may or may not be a nod to the classic Monty Python sketch where Graham Chapman’s name is Raymond Luxury Yacht but it’s pronounced Throatwarbler Mangrove.
