"Frozen" Takes $66.7M Over Weekend, $93.36M Since Open

Disney’s Frozen has contributed to a record-breaking Thanksgiving weekend at the movie box office, taking $66.7 million (estimated) over the weekend for a total of $93.356 million over the five days since its premiere. The total makes it the biggest Thanksgiving opening weekend, easily topping the $80.1 million taken by Toy Story 2 in 1999, and also coming in well above Disney’s Tangled, which took $68.7 million in the same five-day period in 2010. Despite the high totals, Frozen came in second in the box office race for the weekend behind the second installment of The Hunger Games franchise, which took $74.5 million (estimated) in its second week of release for a cumulative total of $296.5 million.
