Bob’s Burgers Episode Recap – Fort Night – Season 4, Episode 2
Synopsis: It’s Halloween again – the best holiday of the year for the Belcher family – and Bob and Linda are busy working on the kids’ group costume [a dragon] while the kids and their friends are busy getting trapped in their homemade fort made out of cardboard refrigerator boxes.
Details: Louise is in the midst of planning the annual Halloween trick-or-treating plan with Tina [for her Farewell Halloween Tour, since she will be getting too old for the free candyfest next year] and Gene when crazy Millie Frock [Molly Shannon – “Saturday Night Live” and “Superstar”] wants to be Louise’s friend and insists that they go out on Halloween in a tandem “dust bunny” costume with Millie as the bunny and Louise as dust.
Louise, as Halloween ringleader, collects Tina, Gene and some of their friends, which includes twins Andy and Ollie and Daryl [Aziz Ansari – “Parks & Recreation”] to adjourn to their special fort constructed of refrigerator boxes and situated next to a dumpster in the alley – but making sure to not invite Millie. Unfortunately for them, an unplanned event occurs when an actual delivery truck parks in front of their fort and traps them inside while the truck’s liftgate flops down and prevents an escape through the fort’s roof and a dumpster and alley walls prevent escape from the fort’s sides. The uninvited Millie arrives, however, and instead of being nice to Millie to entice her to set them free, Louise antagonizes Millie and sets her off on a mission to keep the kids trapped during the duration of Halloween as revenge for Louise being mean to her. Millie’s first act of vengeance is to come back and freak the kids out by releasing a horde of spiders upon the trapped kids in the box, forcing all of them into another “room” of the box fort until Louise realizes that the spiders are only plastic fakes.
Gene then realizes that “garbage juice” has seeped out of the dumpster next to the fort and dampened the cardboard wall enough to create a hole and possible escape route into the dumpster – but unbeknownst to them, Daryl has made a secret pact with Millie as an informer – and Millie is waiting for them when they get into the dumpster, closing the lid to keep them trapped.
Meanwhile, back home, Bob and Linda are working on the group costume for the kids – a dragon – but which “looks like something from China” [though Bob refutes this by saying China would have nothing to do with this dragon]. Confused that they have yet to see the kids with Halloween trick-or-treating departure time looming, Bob and Linda go out into the streets to search for them when they are confronted by Millie, who promises to lead them to where the kids are but instead, adeptly steers them away from the alley where they are trapped in the fort. Unable to keep up with where Millie is leading them, Bob and Linda abandon both Plan A of following Millie and Plan B of looking for the kids and decide to go with Plan C – dressing up as the dragon and going trick-or-treating themselves.
The kids finally figure out an escape plan – using a coat hanger to hit a button on the truck’s liftgate – but they hit the wrong button and the truck’s liftgate begins crushing the cardboard box fort. The kids assemble some objects from the dumpster to keep the lid from crushing the fort before they finally hit the right button with the coat hanger and the liftgate briefly reverses itself and lifts the truck up enough to create a hole in the cardboard box fort and allow an escape route hole to crawl through before coming back down and crushing fort just as the last kid escapes.
Although they have escaped the cardboard box fort, they are now too late for a trick-or-treating run as everybody begins turning out their lights in the neighborhood – so they resort to pretending to be ghosts to extort candy from Millie when she returns and sees the box fort has been crushed. After returning home, they find Bob and Linda with their candy booty and a scuffle ensues over who gets the Halloween candy.
The Poop and Skinny: Daryl’s Halloween costume is an upside-down potted plant holder reminiscent of similar headgear worn by members in 1980s new wave band DEVO.
Bob was invited into the kids’ cardboard fort but Linda is miffed that she never received an invite.
