Disney Moves Pirates To 2016
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! Jack Sparrow will have at least another year of rum all to himself and any wenches he chooses as Disney has elected to move the newest “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel – the fifth in the franchise – to a new release date in 2016. “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” had originally been scheduled for a July 10, 2015 release, but that was before Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas and signed up J.J. Abrams to direct, putting into play the possibility of two blockbuster franchises competing against each other for the moviegoer’s dollars. Instead, they decided to move POTC to 2016 and allow “Kon-Tiki” directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Roenning more time to work with the script.
“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” is now slated to release in Summer 2016 – most likely in May or early July.
