The Amazing World Of Gumball – “The Lesson” Recap
When Darwin and Gumball cheat on their math test, they get caught and are sent to detention, which is run very much like a prison. Now, in order to avoid being beaten into a pulp, they must help one of the more violent offenders with his escape plans.
I really enjoyed “The Lesson”. Having detention be played out like prison was a clever move, and I liked many of the prison jokes that were sprinkled throughout it. I couldn’t help but be amused when Darwin was called a fish, for example, because it was just a great play on words. I’m also glad they came up with some new characters to be in the episode, instead of using some of Gumball’s classmates. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve greatly enjoyed his classmates, but it’s easy for shows like this to forget that schools have plenty of other classes. I mean, we’re over halfway through season two and we’ve yet to see what Anais does at school, so I tend to appreciate any episode that lets us see beyond the scope of just Gumball’s class. All in all, this was a solid episode and I’m looking forward to the next one.
