A two-minute teaser video for Studio BONES’ upcoming series Space Dandy has been officially posted on Bandai Visual’s youtube channel and linked on the series’ official Japanese website. The trailer first premiered during Otakon 2013 August 9th – 11th as part of a presentation on the show from General Director Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). A sci-fi comedy, Space Dandy follows the adventures of the space explorer Dandy and his two sidekicks as they travel outer space seeking out new aliens on unexplored planets to make a living.
In addition to Shinichiro Watanabe, Shingo Natsume (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos) is codirecting the project. Confirmed scriptwriters include Keiko Nobumoto (Wolf’s Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus), Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eureka 7, Ergo Proxy) and Kimiko Ueno (Shin Chan). Character design is credited to Yoshiyuki Ito (Soul Eater, Star Driver) while spaceship designs are being done by Thomas Romain (Oban Star Racers, AKB0048, Bodacious Space Pirates). According to Director Watanabe the series will feature music from from many different composers, as well as aliens conceived by different designers every episode. The theme song for the series is written and performed by the Japanese singer-songwriter Yasuyuki Okamura.
