Poser Pro 2014 Review
Poser Pro 2014 is Smith Micro’s latest version of the 3D CGI animation and modeling software. I will cover the differences between Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014, but focus mainly on the latter for review purposes. Poser Pro 2014 is available for both the PC and Mac and has some new features that will psych you up for exploring all the program is capable of.
Poser has been used in editorial and corporate illustrations to create art for some of your favorite popular characters. Because Poser has so much ready-to-go content, it’s ideal for use by illustrators who don’t have the budget for a live model but need a pose reference. It’s also capable of animation. RWBY, a series coming to Rooster Teeth, used Poser in its creation. You may check out the “Yellow” trailer below.

One of the new features available is the Fitting Room (Poser Pro 2014 Only), which will allow you to interactively fit clothing and props to any Poser figure. There are multiple modes for fitting including tighten, smooth, soft features and rigid features. There’s a pre-fit mode to direct clothing items around a figure’s features. You’ll be able to transfer rigging, weight maps and morphs from figures to converted clothing. There’s a single step rig transfer and auto group for creating new conforming figures.
Two new human figures and seven new cartoon figures are now available.
The Smith Micro team has integrated Pixar’s OpenSubdiv library to provide Pixar Subdivision Surfaces (Poser 10, Poser Pro 2014). Amongst other things, this will allow you to smooth polygonal surfaces.
Poser now has a Color and B&W Comic Book Preview (Poser 10, Poser Pro 2014) for static or animated cartoon imagery. You’ll be able to create comic style art with line control and color, or clean black and white outlines with persistent shading even when rotating your point of view and during animation.
