Owen Wilson has joined Jim Carrey in a film based on the 1997-98 true story of the third-largest cash robbery in the United States. Carrey will play the role of North Carolina armored car driver David Ghantt who was duped by a former female employee of the armored car company into thinking she was romantically interested in him. The female minx was actually in cahoots with Steve Campbell [played by Wilson] to use Ghantt’s job access to steal $17.3 million in cash, then trick Ghantt into running off to Mexico to avoid detection while they remained and sent him small amounts of money. All three plus numerous accomplices were caught and arrested five months later. The as-yet-untitled film will have “Napoleon Dynamite” director Jared Hess directing.
The film is expected to have a 2014 release date.
