DreamWorks Animation Adds Deal with German Broadcaster Super RTL
The Los Angeles Times reports that DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc, has signed a deal with German broadcaster Super RTL for up to 1,100 hours of original animated programming, the latest move by the company to expand its revenue base and its presence on television screens. The deal will include original programming based on DreamWorks’ existing franchises, along with offerings from the recently acquired Classic Media library.
In a related story, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg discussed the company’s TV strategy on a conference call with investors and members of the media, declaring that they expect to add $100 million in revenue from their TV business, reducing their dependence on its feature film business. Many of the company’s recent moves have been to bolster the TV side of the business, including the acquisition Classic Media last year, the programming deal with Netflix announced yesterday, and the agreement to acquire of popular teen YouTube channel Awesomeness TV in May,
