POPULAR BLOG ‘REGRETSY’ TAKES CENTER STAGE

HATE MAIL

HYSTERICAL SEND UP OF ‘LOVE LETTERS’ PLAYING FRIDAYS, MAY 24 & 31, AT JON LOVITZ COMEDY CLUB

Renowned author/actress April Winchell & Emmy-winning actor Rob Paulsen
join forces for two command performances of cartoon voice readings from
the “best” email attacks, complaints & legal threats against the satirical blog

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA (April 23, 2013) – “Hate Mail,” the hilarious reading of actual email attacks, mindless complaints and baseless legal threats made against the satirical blog, Regretsy, will have two command performances by creator/author/actress April Winchell and Emmy Award-winning actor Rob Paulsen on back-to-back Fridays, May 24 & 31, at 8:00 p.m. at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club in Universal Studios’ CityWalk.

In 2009, Winchell launched the popular website Regretsy, a satirical skew on the often-bizarre arts and crafting world featured on the site, Etsy. Regretsy picked up more than 96 million hits in its first three days of existence – leading to the publication of “Regretsy: Where DIY meets WTF” (Random House) in April of 2010. The site and book have generated over $250,000 for charitable causes. Regretsy also inspired thousands of vile emails from folks across the globe who did not appreciate Winchell’s humorous look at their beloved realm of crafting.

“I think everything has the potential to be funny, provided it’s asking for it, and everything is asking for it in some way,” Winchell says, “On Etsy, everyone is as good at everything as everyone else. Nothing is special because everything is. And Etsy users must say only nice things to each other, or risk being muted. I thought it was time to offer another voice.”

The emails are filled with the kind of colorful prose you’d imagine would come from creators of such unique DIY eccentricities as embroidered toilet paper and a taxidermified fish in a squirrel suit. Winchell and Paulsen, true veterans of the voice acting community, put equally hysterical emphasis on their interpretations of the voices of the email writers.

Winchell has enjoyed a multi-faceted entertainment career ranging from sitcom writing on Roseanne and producing award-winning copy for the world’s largest advertising agencies to hosting her own popular talk radio show on KFI in Los Angeles. Featured this summer in both Pixar’s Monsters University and Universal’s Despicable Me 2, Winchell has voiced hundreds of characters for animated films and television series. She’s been a centerpiece of Disney animation, providing the voices for Cruella De Vil and Clarabelle Cow, as well as Miss Finster (Recess), Mrs. Herman and baby (Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and Sylvia in the upcoming Disney Channel series Wander Over Yonder.

Emmy Award-winning actor Rob Paulsen has provided the voice of some of the most well-loved cartoon characters of all time. Paulsen achieved worldwide acclaim for bringing to vocal life the character of Pinky from Pinky and the Brain, and is renowned as the voice of Yakko and Dr. Scratchansniff in the Peabody Award-winning, two-time Emmy honoree Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs.

Paulsen has bookended one of the most beloved animated series in television history – providing the voice of Raphael in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and, 25 years later, he is now the sound behind the character of Donatello in Nickelodeon’s reboot of the classic series. Paulsen’s innumerable other roles include Arthur in The Tick, Carl Wheezer in Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius and Jack Fenton in Danny Phantom.

The evenings will include autograph opportunities, and possible guest appearances from some recognizable members of the voice acting community.

Tickets to both performances can be purchased at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club box office (818-824-6545) or via http://thejonlovitzcomedyclub.com/. Tickets are priced at $20, and audience members most be 18 years and older. Seating is first-come, first served.

The Jon Lovitz Comedy Club is located on CityWalk at Universal Studios (1000 Universal Studios Blvd., #222, Universal City, CA 91608).
