Disney to Adapt “Aladdin” as Broadway Musical

Disney Theatrical Productions is planning to adapt Aladdin as a Broadway stage musical, building on the 1992 hit animated movie with an eye to the curtain rising at the New Amsterdam Theatre in 2014, according to the Associated Press. Reports are that the genie, brought to memorable life by Robin Williams’ vocal performance and mercurial character animation in the film, will change from “a shape-shifting blue spirit to a Cab Calloway-styled vaudevillian.”
