The Looney Tunes Show - "Bobcats on Three!" Episode Recap

Gossamer asks Daffy to coach his water polo team called “The Bobcats”. Meanwhile, Bugs becomes addicted to Porky’s improved catering food that’s heavily made with butter.

Bugs, Daffy, Porky and the rest of the Looney Tunes cast are back with brand new animated looney sitcom adventures for season 2 of The Looney Tunes Show. Season 1 started off rocky with changed characterizations, plots that left much to be desired and an awful habit of leaving most of the creative and fun episodes focused on Daffy. It’s not that I don’t like Daffy, but there should be no excuse to leave the majority of the stories on his wing when you got so many other Looney Tunes characters to put the spotlight on, which finally a became a reality when Sylvester got his very own full comedic story in the 26th episode. Fortunately, Bobcats on Three is not bad and surpasses the pilot, Best Friends.

This episode is all about how Daffy goes into further heights of hilarity by coaching a water polo team, while Bugs is staying at home and becoming completely obsessed with Porky’s brand new catering food. Daffy’s story had shining moments with his pure stupidity, such as putting horses into the water polo pool, and learning a life lesson in his own special way – coming to the final humorous thought that nobody really cares about swimming sports anyway. Alas, I can’t say Bugs’ situation was as eventful. The main problem with Bugs here is that his personality is still rather stale, and it almost feels like the writers are purposely holding him back so he doesn’t outshine Daffy. It was rather confusing to see the beloved rabbit only becoming slightly crazy over Porky’s food rather than going on a humorous rampage. I mentioned this before in previous recaps, but Daffy’s spotlight is always so well received that I question why the writers just did not create the “Daffy Show” instead of bothering with Bugs. All in all, here we were given a decent start that brought hope for better things, even as it lagged along the way.
