NYCC 2012: FUNimation Announces "Wolf Children" Anime Film, "Toriko" English Dub
At its industry panel Sunday afternoon, FUNimation Entertainment announced that it had recently closed a deal to release the 2012 anime film Wolf Children in 2013. Director Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) conceived the story and wrote the screenplay along with Satoko Okudera. Wolf Children tells the story of a widowed mother trying to raise and care for her son and daughter in the countryside, both descendants of a “Wolfman” that she fell in love with.
It was further stated that a “four-star treatment” of the film was planned, including a theatrical release similar to what Summer Wars received prior to its release on Blu-ray and DVD in North America.
The company also plans to release Toei’s shonen action anime Toriko with an English dub on DVD, with the first 13 episodes due for release on January 8th of 2013. Two cast announcements were made at the panel: Ian Sinclair as Toriko himself and Joshua Brelle as his friend and ally Komatsu. The full dub cast will be announced next week.
Finally, during the panel’s Q&A session Toonzone News was able to ask about FUNimation’s license of the movie Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection. In regard to whether the company will release the original version of the film, the late Yoshinobu Nishizaki’s director’s cut of the film or both, the panel answered that details were still “in the works” with the release still a ways off yet, also offering assurance that many people were “hard at work” on the title.
