At its industry panel on Sunday morning, Sentai Filmworks’ David Williams announced that the company had acquired the rights to release the Studio Ghibli’s 1988 film Grave of the Fireflies on Blu-ray. Directed by Isao Takahata, the film is an adaptation of a semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka that depicts the struggle of two Japanese children to survive in the latter days of World War II. Details regarding extras have not yet been determined.
Williams also confirmed that director Makoto Shinkai’s latest film, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, will be released in November 2012. Other titles scheduled for November include Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, collection 4 for Psychic Squad and the second collection for Intrigue in the Bakumatsu. Sentai also has home video rights for the comedy My Little Sister Is Among Them!, as well as plans to release the second film installment for the cyberpunk anime Mardock Scramble.
Williams also had an update for Kids on the Slope, which will be released “early next year” on DVD and Blu-ray.
