"Simpsons" Producer Al Jean Spearheads Emmy Nominations Protest Campaign

The Simpsons producer Al Jean is spearheading a campaign to compel the Television Academy of Arts & Sciences to reconsider the way it categorizes eligibility for the Emmys. The trigger for Jean’s protest is the fact that NBC’s live-action sitcom Community was allowed to submit for nomination in the comedy series, writing, and animated program categories this year, while animated programs may only submit in the animated categories or in comedy to be eligible for the individual writing category. The loophole seems to be the special animated episode of Community which aired this past season. Jean’s letter to the Academy was also signed by 51 others, including The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, and King of the Hill/Bob’s Burgers executive producer Jim Dautrieve.
