Universal's Illumination Entertainment Working on CGI "Woody Woodpecker" Feature

The Hollywood Reporter states that Universal’s Illumination Entertainment is at work on a CGI feature film starring Woody Woodpecker, with John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (Blades of Glory) in talks to develop a story. The iconic cartoon character was created by Walter Lantz in 1940, and his popular theme song is the only one from a short film to be nominated for a Best Original Song Academy Award. Universal acquired the rights to the Woody Woodpecker library from Lantz in 1985.
