Future Spotlight: “The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra” – Part I
After the end of the epic series Avatar: The Last Airbender, many of us fans have wondered, “What happens next?” Well, the answer has arrived.
A spin-off has been created called The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra. It takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar. Fortunately for us, lots of information was given at the “Korra” panel of Comic-Con International: San Diego, and recorded on the Avatar: The Last Airbender Online website (http://avatarthelastairbenderonline.com/) There’s also an amazing trailer.

This “Future Spotlight” will be broken up into many segments due to the immense amount of information I’ve received. So, with that aside, let the Spotlight begin!
Avatar Korra and Gang
“Korra” revolves around….well, Avatar Korra (voiced by Janet Varney).
She’s a 17 year-old from the Southern Water Tribe who’s described as “rebellious”, “hot-headed”, and “ready to take on the world” by the show’s executives. At the start of the series, she has already mastered the elements of Earth, Fire, and of course, Water. She’s learning Airbending from Tenzin, grandson of Aang and Katara. Like the avatar before her, Aang, Korra also has a faithful hybrid animal sidekick; Naga, the polar bear dog.
In Korra’s gang there are the brothers Mako and Bolin, a Firebender and an Earthbender, respectively. Mako, named after the late voice actor of Uncle Iroh, is the older of the two. He’s a bit like Zuko, and is said to be Korra’s love interest. Bolin is the comedic member of the gang, naive and goofy. In other words, he’s like the Sokka and Toph of the trio.
Family of Tenzin
So apparently, Aang and Katara got married (they were made for each other) and had three kids. The youngest, Tenzin (voiced by JK Simmons), was the only Airbender. Tenzin himself married a non-bender, Pima, and had three kids; Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo, all of which are Airbenders. Tenzin’s family live on a small island of the coast of Republic City.
I, for one, am psyched for this new series, but perhaps I think that way because I enjoyed watching Avatar. Stay “tooned” for Part II of Future Spotlight. Coming soon!
