New Film Based on "Cyborg 009" Announced; Kenji Kamiyama to Direct & Screenwrite
After a screening of Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society 3D in Tokyo, director Kenji Kamiyama announced a new film titled 009 Re:Cyborg as his next project. The announcement was streamed live on the video websites Youtube, Ustream and Nico Nico Douga. 009 Re:Cyborg is set in the year 2013 and is based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s sci-fi manga Cyborg 009, a tale of nine humans kidnapped by the warmongering criminal organization Black Ghost. They are turned into Cyborgs with unique abilities, but they escape captivity and dedicate themselves to fighting against Black Ghost’s evil schemes.
Kamiyama is both directing and scripting the new movie, which is being animated by Production I.G and produced for 3D. An official promotional video for the film has been posted on the film’s official website. 009 Re:Cyborg is expected to premiere at Japanese theaters in Fall 2012.
