Fox Resolves Salary Dispute, Renews "The Simpsons" for Two More Seaons
On Friday evening, Fox announced that it has renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons, ending speculation that the series would come to an end over a salary dispute with the show’s actors. The order will bring the show to 559 total episodes by 2014, further padding the show’s record-breaking length as television’s longest prime-time scripted series. While details were not revealed, reports state that the cast has agreed to a pay cut, but not the 45% decrease that the studio declared was necessary to continue the series.
Earlier reports from Fox declared that the series would be cancelled unless the actors agreed to a substantial pay cut, although a suggestion from actor Harry Shearer of an even more substantial salary cut in return for profit-sharing was rebuffed.
