Disney to Push "Toy Story 3" for Best Picture
A report in the New York Times states that Disney is preparing a full-scale push for Toy Story 3 to win this year’s Oscar for Best Picture, noting several other studios preparing pushes for their films after the presumed frontrunner, The Social Network, did not perform as well as expected at the box office. The report states that the decision went all the way up to Disney chief Robert A. Iger, and adds that the rapturous reviews, $1.1. billion in global ticket sales, and an “it’s overdue” argument are all working in favor to make Toy Story 3 the first animated film to win a Best Picture Oscar. Only two other animated movies have ever been nominated for the category: 1991’s Beauty and the Beast and 2009’s Up.
