Cable TV Ratings: "Penguins of Madagascar" and "Fish Hooks" Lead the Week

For the week of August 30 – September 5, Nickelodeon’s The Penguins of Madagascar was the top rated cable series with total viewers, coming in at #13 and #17, bumping SpongeBob SquarePants, the normal ratings winner, to #19. The two episodes of Penguins were new, and scored the follow ratings (by demo breakdowns):

  • Saturday, September 4 at 10 a.m. – 4.034 million total viewers age 2+ (#13), 2.310 million kids 2-11 (#3) and 1.540 million kids 6-11 (#5)
  • Saturday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. – 3.903 million total viewers age 2+ (#17), 2.089 million kids 2-11 (#6) and 1.395 million kids 6-11 (#9)

The preview episode of Disney Channel’s new animated series Fish Hooks technically scored higher than Penguins of Madagascar, but wasn’t included in the top 25 cable series chart, most likely due to it being 14 minutes and anything under 15 minutes isn’t included. The premiere (Friday at 10 p.m., after Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam) did score 4.8 million total viewers (would have been #8 if ranked), 2.613 million kids 2-11 (#2), 2.075 million kids 6-11 (#2), 1.930 million tweens 9-14 (#2) and 1.060 million teens 12-17 (#4).

The yellow ratings winner wasn’t counted out, as SpongeBob SquarePants‘ Saturday 9:30 a.m. slot scored 3.841 million total viewers (#19) and 2.152 million kids 2-11 (#4). A Thursday 7:30 p.m. episode also scored 1.850 million kids 2-11 (#10).

While outside the top ratings charts, Cartoon Network’s Monday night animated comedies (7-10 p.m.) rank #1 on all television among boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. Some of the highlights include:

  • Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (7 p.m.) – 1.003 million kids 2-11, 611,000 kids 6-11, 619,000 boys 2-11 and 396,000 boys 6-11
