Cable TV Ratings: "SpongeBob" Most Watched, Cartoon Network Down

SpongeBob SquarePants was the only animated program to place in the cable top 25 for the week of June 14 – 20, 2010. SpongeBob placed in six positions in the top 25, which is ranked by total viewers, ranging from 3.7 to 3.9 million viewers. The highest rated episode aired on Wednesday morning at 11:30AM with 3.9 million viewers. A new episode of SpongeBob SquarePants (Saturday 10AM) placed 25th with 3.7 million viewers.

Cartoon Network ratings were down week-to-week for new episodes of Adventure Time (Monday 8PM) which scored 1.6 million viewers (verses last week’s 1.8 million), Ben 10: Alien Force (Friday 8PM) with 1.3 million viewers (down from 1.8 million the previous week) and Generator Rex with 1.4 million (down from the 1.7 million last week).

On Nickelodeon, a Saturday morning premiere of The Penguins of Madagascar (10:30AM) scored 3.3 million total viewers, 1.7 million kids 2-11, 1.2 million kids 6-11, and 865,000 tweens 9-14. That followed the new episode of SpongeBob SquarePants (reported above) that scored 3.7 million viewers, of which 2.0 million were kids 2-11, 1.3 million kids 6-11 and 850,000 tweens 9-14. SpongeBob SquarePants and The Penguins of Madagascar rank as the #1 and #2 animated series for kids 2-11 and 6-11 for the quarter to date for all TV (meaning both broadcast and cable).

Nicktoons, Nickelodeon’s 24/7 animation network, scored its most-watched week ever with boys 6-11, tweens 9-14, boys 9-14 and total viewers.

Disney Channel’s Sunday night airing of Pixar Short Films (9PM) scored 3.5 million total viewers, 1.2 million of which were tweens 9-14.

For the week overall in total day and total viewers, Nickelodeon placed first with 2.3 million viewers, Disney Channel followed close with to 2.0 million viewers, Nick at Nite placed third with 1.5 million viewers, Adult Swim ranked seventh with 1.2 million viewers followed right behind by Cartoon Network with an average of 1.0 million viewers, and Nick Jr. which ranked 23rd with 546,000 viewers – the only preschool network to place in the top 25 cable networks with total viewers (age 2+). In primetime (8-11PM) and total viewers for the week, Disney Channel ranked second with 2.8 million viewers, Nick at Nite placed sixth with 1.5 million and Cartoon Network ranked 15th with about 1.0 million viewers.

For total day and kids 2-11, Nickelodeon ranked first with 1.2 million viewers, Disney Channel placed second with 1.0 million, with quite a drop-off, Cartoon Network came in third with 533,000 viewers, followed by Nick at Nite in fourth with 425,000, Nick Jr. placed fifth with 353,000, what might seem odd is that Adult Swim placed sixth with 202,000 viewers age 2-11, Disney XD followed with 184,000 and finally (for networks airing animation) was Nicktoons with 110,000 viewers in eighth place for the week.
